This is where I belong :)

I am so glad to find this community on here.  I recently did an amateur photo shoot as a pinup and I am HOOKED!!

Can anyone give tips on how to get photos done just for fun - preferably TFCD or as low cost as possible??

Here are a couple of my pics to share with all of you :).  Please feel free to contact me or comment :).

I'm in an odd mood tonight.

Weird what people say when they know you are leaving.  Two people I considered only colleagues welled up with tears....  another random person came by to wish me well and tell me that the scuttlebut" around the building was that I'd be very hard to replace.  And on another note, I was told today that I was "ehrgeiz"... or something to that effect that I will never be able to pronounce.   Means ambitious in German.  Same fellow told me he thought I'd come back as a far higher rank than I am now.

Good for my ego.

Sorry for the lateness...

I have a really good excuse tho. My Mom broke her foot yesterday and I spent the whole day with her, driving her to the hospital and sleeping in so she's not alone.

Plus, yesterday a pretty baby kitten that looks pretty much like Spooky was dying on my front door. I took him to the vet and he's doing better but he needs a lot of attention.

Next CRFH comic is scheduled for Thursday.

Edit: I updated the donation meter. Thank you very much for your generous donations! We're 2/3 of a whole month of updates, it seems! Small note, however: the REAL donation count has some extra cents in it. But the space in the meter is very limited so I'm leaving them out of the image, but not the real count. Thanks!

Hummph!

You might have noticed there were some server issues during the weekend. I spent a lot of time trying to fix them and I couldn't finish the strip on time. CRFH will update at some point during Monday.

Rambling update

;To Do: Give mom something for Mother's Day.  check.

I sent Mom roses for mother's day. Got a bit silly with it...  she's been a mother for 27 and a half years, so I sent her 27 red roses, and a pink one.  She caught the meaning behind it without my having to explain, and seemed happy about it, so I've covered that detail.

So many details to cover, but they are pretty much set to go.

13 days and counting.

All the ducks are in a row.  I even have a mystic tan appointment lined up for the day after I land.  Oh, and the other time consuming task, the yard sale for all our german voltage appliances and a few pieces of furniture, is done as well.

Weird to watch the yard sale vultures pawing through everyone's tables.  Very little pawing at ours, Kevin and I had the stuff lined up and clean and price tagged like a display in the appliances section of the store.  The vultures just picked it up, asked the same questions... "does it work?"  And they get the same response. "We threw out anything that doesn't work."

Germans are a bit shocked by this.  You don't waste things, you find someone to fix them or you give it away to someone who can. Lots of them are pack rats.  Both my broken exercise machine and my old guinea pig cage were taken by a nieghbor who said he would use the metal to make, of all things, a grill.

A grill???!

Whatever.  Very little haggling during the yard sale and we made a couple hundred bucks when it was done.

Another item checked off my very long moving out list.  Now mostly done.

Soon to begin checking off items on the even longer moving in list.

My grandfather, the Italian one on my father's side whom we call 'Nonno,' also grew up in Fano. I don't know much about his childhood, but I do know that his childhood house is still standing, because he gleefully showed it to my parents when they visited the town together.

My grandfather, Piero, loves Mussolini. He considers joining with the Nazis the sad mistake of a great man; his hatred of them doesn't impact his memory of the Italian leader. Piero, my Nonno, still toasts the anniversaries of Mussolini's birthday. )

I'm not sure if this is the place for this question, but I figured I'd give it a shot. My apologies if it's misplaced.

Anyway, I've been pondering doing a photo shoot from a specific era. I haven't decided on one yet, but I do have some preferences. However, I'd really like to do the era that my face (and body type, if applicable) are most suited for. Does anyone have an idea of how I could determine this? Anyone willing/able to help?

Thank you!

I know a bit more about my father's side of the family. His parents also grew up in the same town--a little place in northern Italy called Fano. (I'm not sure if that spelling is correct; I've never seen it on a map and know it only through stories. My parents have been there, and my grandparents go back every year, but I have never been.) )

I've just finished reading this post. What really hit me is what she said about living history, and I found it amazing that what she knew as common knowledge, as a story passed down through her mother, was something that many history books would deny.

I don't know many stories about history, and I don't know if the stories I know are important or not. I'll write them down, anyway.

All my grandparents went through WWII. I don't know many details--I don't know anything about my mother's father's experiences during that time, for instance. The only things I know about my mother's side of the family are these: )

The Giving Type.

Every office has a creepy guy, or has had one pass through.  My creepy guy is very harmless... but he keeps trying to do me favors.  And it's getting irritating.  He insists on giving me his extra pretzel, a piece of fruit he picked up... offers to pick things up from Burger King or the bakery truck... always lets me know he's made coffee and I'm welcome to it.  And each time I turn it down.

I made the mistake of mentioning my transportation troubles about getting to the airport... in conversation with someone else, and he gets very pushy about  giving me a ride to the airport and even insists that my husband and I should stay at his house for the night if we need a place the night before. Yes, I was looking for a hotel for the night before... NO I do not want to stay at this man's home. When he finally gives up, walking off in a huff, he still eventually returns with a list of hotels he's printed off, plops it on my desk without a word ,and leaves as if to say.. "so there."  (Course I couldn't use the list if I wanted to, since there's no address or phone information and it's written in GERMAN!) Ahem.  did I also mention he's not the brightest crayon in the box?

Anyways....it would be sweet once in awhile. Almost every day gets suspicious, especcially when he's so insistant and wants me to justify -why- I don't want to accept his offer. Hostiility at my politely declining an offer is... well... creepy.

Keep in mind that all of this is -unasked-. I'm just sitting at my desk or walking down the hallway and he approaches me to offer me something.  It sounds sweet, but there is something strange about it. And then he takes it personally.

I start feeling like its a version of persephone's test.... that if I take the offers, I'll pay a price.  Don't eat the pomegranate seed!
